RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Starting a business can be one of the biggest financial risks a person can go through.

That’s why Black Hills State University is looking to lessen that burden with a class aimed at helping businesses in the Black Hills area grow. Black Hills State University offers an annual course for business owners called Fuel the Growth.

Just this week BHSU received official accreditation on the course allowing them to hopefully appeal to a wider audience.

The purpose of this class is to connect small and local businesses with community partners that may be willing to work together in the future. The class gives these business owners access to resources and strategies as well that are aimed at expanding their operations.

Additionally, this course being offered fills a gap in the region.

“I think between Minneapolis and maybe Boise, we would have been the only accredited course in the Northern Plains region, so I think we’ll be drawing from more than just Rapid City itself by the time we start to get the word out,” said Jon Kilpinen an administrator for Black Hills State University.

Those interested in checking the course out can sign up for their next class coming up in the fall.
