RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Two Rapid City Area middle schools—southwest and north—are starting a new electronic hall pass project that sends a request from students’ computers to their teachers’ computers.

The Rapid City Area School District claims that by transitioning from traditional hall passes to electronic systems, schools can provide real-time monitoring of students.

This new protocol has already sparked outrage among people who believe the school is denying children their basic human rights.

One anonymous Facebook user didn’t like the new policy, posting, “This is absolutely disgusting. It is understandable that vaping and other actions are trying to be eliminated. But refusing children the natural human action of relieving themselves is wrong!”

The School District claims that by using technology to monitor their students, schools can improve safety, accountability, and administrative efficiency, which will improve the overall experience for students and staff.
