MASCOUTAH, Ill. (KMOV/Gray news) - A working dog signaled that it found an explosive while conducting a routine explosive sweep on a vehicle Wednesday morning at an Air Force base in Illinois, sparking an investigation that later determined the vehicle didn’t have a device.

A Scott Air Force Base spokesperson originally told KMOV that an explosive device was found inside a commercial vehicle. They later clarified that they are considering it a potential explosive device.

The vehicle was at the Commercial Vehicle Inspection Gate, commonly called the Mascoutah Gate, at Scott Air Force Base around 9 a.m.

Base personnel put a 1,000-foot cordon in place, prompting residents in Lincoln’s Landing to shelter, and explosives experts were called to the scene.

Around 11:40 a.m., base personnel ended the Explosive Ordnance Disposal response to the gate with negative findings.
