RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -

Overnight, temperatures dip below freezing and partly cloudy skies continue to dominate until around 5 am where we see our first round of moisture starts to push through. Tomorrow, we start out with snow showers that will make a transition to rain and snow by lunchtime and then finally all rain by the time we get to the afternoon. What could go wrong or right with this storm system. Its that time of year where we start to focus on temperatures instead of moisture. This system will solely depend on if temperatures stay cold enough. In the 31 to 33 range, all snow will be likely. On the other hand, a little warmer, a mix looks more likely. Regardless, travel will be difficult with heavy wet snow falling and causing slush. Winter weather advisories are in effect for the Central, Northern and Wyoming Black Hills for heavy wet snow 3 to 6 inches. This goes from 6AM tomorrow to noon Sunday. The same area is under a winter storm watch that takes into effect directly after the winter weather advisory. 4 to 9 inches will make travel difficult. Preliminary snow totals for the area are looking on the highest end for the Hills with Custer seeing the bullseye. Rapid City has a range of 2 to 6 inches. Overnight tonight, temperatures drop into the 20s for much of the area with partly cloudy skies. Snow showers start to form at around 5 AM and change over to all rain by tomorrow afternoon. High temperatures tomorrow will get into the upper 30s to lower 40s across the area. Custer will likely see snow throughout the day tomorrow. The next three days in NE Wyoming and the Northern Hills shows the system starting to clear out by the time we are starting our work week. Rapid City could see a few lingering snow showers Monday, but sunshine returns in full force by Tuesday and temperatures are back to spring by the time we get to the middle of next week.
