RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - We’re into spring and you want to make sure you’re ready to hit the outdoors. But with this weekend’s weather, an indoor workout might be in order. YMCA group exercise coordinator Nicole Craig has a quick ab workout in this week’s edition of HealthWatch.

“Happy March. Welcome to HealthWatch. This month, instead of digging for gold, we’re going to dig for those abs. So here’s a nice core routine that doesn’t take much time at all. 3 to four times at 30 seconds for each exercise and yo;’re done in a matter of minutes. The first one is a good old fashioned Russian twist. Sitting up nice and tall, les are bent, heels are dug into the floor. We’re going to lean back, we’re just going to kind of keep the hands together and just twist the torso. Side to side, think about getting the elbow down to the floor. It doesn’t have to touch the floor but that is a nice visual to get the twist going. What we don’t want to do is rotate the whole body. That’s from the belly button up, twist side to side. After that, we’re going to flip over and work on plank toe taps. For plank, you can be in a high plank position or a low ;lank position, nice and long and just tap the toes out to the side. 30 seconds of that and you’re going to be done. Then we’ll flip back over for one more time and work on some penguins. Rolling all the way down, heels can be close to the glutes . We’re nice and flat. We’re going to curl up, just getting the shoulder blades off the floor and then heel tapping. Or ankle or whatever part of the leg you’d like to hit. Then we’re going to flip back over, good old fashioned plank. No moving this time, we’re just going to hold it. Planks can be done on the toes or the knees as long as the core is pulled in tight supporting the lower back. I’m Nicole Craig with HealthWatch.”
