RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Childcare services in Rapid City may be in for a nice boost.

Tuesday, multiple recipients across the state were announced to receive childcare grants as part of Governor Kristi Noem’s Investment Plan for Child Care.

One of the recipients was Elevate Rapid City.

More than 40 organizations applied for the recent round of grant funds which totaled over 3-point-7 million dollars ... with 13 grants being awarded.

The grant funds will go towards projects to help strengthen and improve childcare services ... foster after-school initiatives through partnerships and provide a business accelerator program that will create business startups.

Elevate Rapid City community manager Laura Jones explained why they were one of the few entities in West River awarded the funds.

” There was a plan and grant initially with this that started in October-November last year and you had to have your plan written by February 29th, so it was a really tight turnaround. So, it’s kind of understandable that so few communities were selected for this particular grant opportunity,” said Jones.
