EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB/Gray News) – Two people broke into a home in Connecticut and demanded what police described as a “high dollar value cat.”

Residents told officers with the East Haven Police Department that two armed men broke into their home around 3:45 p.m. and left in a blue BMW.

Police said the resident told officers one of men kicked through the sliding glass pane to get into the home and then showed a gun.

Once inside the home, police said the men demanded the resident’s high dollar value cat.

“After several minutes of searching the house for the cat, a resident fought off the intruders, who fled the residence in a blue BMW,” police said. “It should be noted that the suspects were unsuccessful in their attempts to steal the feline in question.”

Detectives from East Haven responded to the scene and took over the investigation. They found the BMW in question and processed it for evidence.

The investigation revealed it was a targeted attack between individuals familiar with each other, authorities said.

“This was not a random incident, and detectives are following up on several leads,” police said.

No one was hurt, and police said the incident remained under investigation as of Monday.
