How a seatbelt update in new vehicles could be potentially life-saving

(InvestigateTV) — Seatbelt warning systems have reminded drivers to buckle up for years.

The systems have been required in driver seats for decades, but there’s no such mandate when it comes to the backseat where children often end up sitting.

Seatbelt usage is said to reduce the risk of fatality for rear-seat occupants by 55% in cars and 74% in light trucks and vans.

Now, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is eyeing a potentially life-saving update.
