Dog found with zip-tied snout gets adopted by police officer who rescued him
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU/Gray News) - An Indiana police officer who helped rescue a dog found with a zip tie on his snout adopted him just days later.
South Bend Police say a Doberman was found running around on the city’s south side last Friday with a zip tie on his snout. Officer Stephanie Northcutt gently approached the dog and safely caught him so that a bystander could remove the zip tie.
The rescue was caught on Northcutt’s body camera, WNDU reports.
Police said in a social media post Monday that Northcutt adopted the dog, now named Zeus, after he spent some time bonding with her other dogs.
The officer said she knew the moment she laid eyes on him that Zeus was the perfect addition to her family. In fact, he is the second dog Northcutt has rescued from a tough situation while on patrol.
Zeus will likely not suffer any long-term physical effects from his injuries, according to the South Bend Animal Resource Center. They say he is doing extremely well, despite the bad hand he was dealt.
Police say Northcutt also plans to sponsor two adoptions through the animal resource center after seeing how deeply Zeus’ story affected the community.
The investigation into why the dog was found with a zip tie on his snout continues.
