RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Although there was a slight increase in drug offenses, overall statistics show that there was a 2-and-half percent decrease from 2022.

Criminal offenses in 2022 were reported at more than 68,000 which decreased to 67,100 in 2023.

Homicide, sex offenses, and aggravated assaults were reported at more than 48,000 which decreased to 45,900 in 2023.

When asked about these numbers, Attorney General Marty Jackley stated he thinks these numbers reflect an overall effort of law enforcement and residents.

“We’re blessed to have a fairly safe state. Our communities put an effort in prevention, treatment when it comes to addiction, and law enforcement. So, I think it’s reflective of not just our law enforcement, but our citizens are generally law abiding,” said Jackley.

These crime reports are compiled from reporting information from law enforcement.
