8-year-old’s mother forgives driver accused of hitting, killing her
HENRY COUNTY, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) - The mother of an 8-year-old Georgia girl killed while getting on her school bus says she wants to forgive the accused driver.
The courtroom was filled Monday for 25-year-old Kaylee Andre’s first court appearance. She’s accused of hitting 8-year-old Adalynn Pierce as she was trying to cross a Henry County road to get on her school bus Thursday morning. The girl died at the hospital days later.
Officials say the school bus had its stop sign out and flashing red lights activated at the time of the incident, WANF reports.
Warrants say when police asked Andre what happened, she said, “When I got in my car, my windows were fogged up, and I couldn’t see. I didn’t see the school bus, flashing lights nor the little girl.”
At Monday’s hearing, a woman spoke on behalf of Adalynn’s mother, saying the mom wants to forgive Andre. She read a statement that said the mom believes her daughter would have hugged the driver and said it was an accident.
A judge granted Andre a $20,000 bond. Driving restrictions were also imposed that only allow the 25-year-old to go to necessary places, like work and doctor appointments.
Andre is charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle, failure to stop for a school bus loading and unloading and failure to exercise due care.
