5 killed, including 2 teens and an infant, in crash involving minivan
KLAMATH COUNTY, Ore. (KPTV/Gray News) - Oregon State Police said two cars crashed in Klamath County on Wednesday, killing five people and leaving one hurt.
Just after 9:30 a.m., police responded to the crash on Highway 97.
Thirty-nine-year-old Juan Ochoa Bravo, of Bend, was driving northbound in a Chrysler Pacifica when he lost control and slid into oncoming traffic.
Authorities say a 56-year-old driver from Los Angeles operating a Peterbilt truck with an attached trailer swerved off the southbound shoulder of the highway to avoid the Chrysler. Bravo then crashed into the front of the Peterbilt, sending the Chrysler spinning across the northbound lane.
Two teenagers and an infant were in the Chrysler, alongside Bravo and 37-year-old Eve Saldana Alcantar. All five were pronounced dead at the scene.
An 11-year-old passenger was also in the car. She is the only survivor in the Chrysler and was transported to an area hospital.
The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.
Police said the road conditions factored into the crash. Additionally, several passengers were not wearing seatbelts, according to authorities.
