17-year-old driving 100 mph involved in triple fatal crash, police say

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA/Gray News) – A child properly restrained in a car seat was the only survivor of a deadly crash involving excessive speed in Texas last week.

Investigators say a 17-year-old driver of a Lexus was traveling over 100 mph just before a crash on Jan. 11.

The driver, Victoria Vasquez, lost control of the car and crashed into a Chevrolet Impala heading in the opposite direction.

Vasquez was ejected from the Lexus and pronounced dead at the scene. Police said she was not wearing a seat belt.

According to officials, the driver and passenger of the Impala, 37-year-old Joseph Hernandez and 38-year-old Moses Hernandez, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities said both men were wearing their seat belts.

A child passenger in the Impala was properly restrained in a car seat and survived. The child was taken to the hospital for treatment and is recovering from injuries.
