PIERRE, S.D. (KEVN) - Governor Kristi Noem has announced the appointment of Capt. Casey Collins as the new Superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol, effective from Jan. 22.

With an impressive career in law enforcement, Capt. Collins has demonstrated unwavering dedication and commitment, making him the ideal candidate for leading the South Dakota Highway Patrol. He takes over the leadership role from retired Col. Rick Miller.

“Capt. Collins brings a wealth of experience and is well-positioned to lead the SDHP into its next chapter,” Secretary Robert Perry, Dept. of Public Safety, said. “I have full confidence in Capt. Collins’s ability to build upon the legacy left by Col. Miller and to continue prioritizing the safety and well-being of the citizens of South Dakota.”

“I am extremely grateful to be selected as the next Superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol. I would like to thank Governor Noem and Secretary Perry for this opportunity,” Capt. Collins said. “The dedicated employees of the SDHP do incredible work every day to keep our citizens and visitors safe. I am honored to serve with them and committed to providing the resources needed to positively impact public safety for South Dakota.”

The change of leadership for Captain Collins will happen at a future date. Upon this transfer of command, Collins will be promoted to the rank of Colonel and will become the 15th Superintendent in the history of the Highway Patrol. The Highway Patrol was established back in 1937.
