OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE/Gray News) – Katie Albers has been a middle school librarian in Kentucky for 14 years.

When she saw an ad for a clothing company’s challenge to wear one of their dresses for 100 straight days, she decided to write her own story.

“This challenge spoke to me, but I was hesitant to try it because it’s a little crazy,” she said.

On her birthday, Albers decided to start the challenge and wore the same red dress for 100 days in a row.

Since her job as a librarian isn’t very physically demanding, she said it wasn’t necessary to wash the dress every day, but she did clean it during the three-month period as needed.

“I mostly spot-cleaned,” she said. “Then I’d wash it every five to seven days for a good full wash.”

Thanks to her creative accessorizing, none of her coworkers even noticed the lack of variety in her wardrobe.

Usually, she’d try to spice up the outfit by putting on a cardigan or a shirt over the dress to repurpose it into a different look.

Almost 40 days into her challenge, Albers decided to break the news to her closest friend Stacy Fulkerson, who is also a librarian at the same school.

Fulkerson says she was shocked to hear Albers had been wearing the same dress for over a month since she works near her all day every day.

“She’s crazy,” she said. “That’s what I thought, but I thought, ‘How did I miss 38 days?’”

It took the rest of the staff at the middle school more than two weeks later to catch on as well.

Soon, Fulkerson said the whole school was in on it.

“Once they realized the days, they’d say, ‘Katie, what day is it?’ or, “Does she still have the dress on, Stacy?’” Fulkerson said.

Albers said the whole thing has made her re-consider everything she owns.

“I don’t need so many options, they’re just really taking up space,” she said. “It was really nice to remember that you just need a few nice things that you can mix and match, and that’s pretty good.”

Albers received a $100 gift card to the clothing company, called Wool&, for participating in their challenge. She says she’s considering entering another 30-day challenge the company offers next.
